USB thumbdriver failure/missing stops the owl service

I was dealing with an issue where the USB thumb drive after a while wasn’t recognized by the OS for some reason.

For a while I couldn’t figure out what was going on, because the owl service would fail/stop. After looking at the logs, there was a clear message that there was an issue with the USB thumb drive. That pointed me to the right direction.

I ended up moving it into a different USB port and it looks like the issue is gone.

My understanding is that when the service can’t read the USB storage, it fails or stops working.

I am wondering if that’s by design. If you want to start recording at some point, it would be an issue. However, I wouldn’t stop the owl service just for that reason.

Maybe a warning on the dashboard about the missing/failing USB thumbdrive would be helpful.

Yeh, this is quite annoying now. I will change it as suggested.

It started because I bricked a Pi after saving too many images to local storage and it died, so this way it forces you to add a USB drive. There are much more elegant ways of managing this though, so I will update it!
