This is a really impressive setup Seb! Thanks for sharing the approach here. How did you train the model for detection in onions? Did you need many images?

YouTube video of it in action as well.

English version of Seb’s post:
Here’s an example of an OWL setup for ultra-localized spraying. I have 40 solenoid valves over a 2-meter area to create 5cm spots. I created a PCB with 10 optocoupler relays. I have 4 modules for the 2-meter area, and each module has a PCB, a camera, a Raspberry Pi 5, and an AI HAT+ Hailo 8 26-tops. I had to modify owl.py and the dashboard to use .hef models compatible with Hailo 8. I built a small server box with a Raspberry Pi 5 and a screen, into which I added an RC05 PCB and an F9P to retrieve GPS data and regulate the spraying. This box boots from the dashboard. It’s connected via RJ45 to a Windows tablet running AgopenGPS and Rate Control. I’ve included some photos of the results after treatment in a very dirty onion field. During operation, the spray boom is 23cm high relative to the target, and the Owl boom is 55cm high so that each camera reads a 50cm wide area.

I used just over 200 photos for the model. The model’s quality could be improved by using around 500 photos. I used Roboflow to create my dataset.
